Playlist : 2/28/16 - 3/12/16

- Titled : "Black Water's Rising"

I know it has been a while since my last update work and personal life have been keeping me quite busy. No complaints here, except I have not been able to listen to as much music as I want to. Without further bullshit on my behalf here is my playlist. Cheers!

2/28/16
--------
Winter - Into Darkness LP (1992)
 - Okay, I totally dig this album. I finally found a copy really cheep at Extreme Noise before I went to work and literally ended up using change from the floor of my friends car to pay for it.

Coffinworm - When All Became None LP (2010)
 - If I am going to be on a slow doom and sludgy path, this seemed like the path to follow.

2/29/16 (Leap Year/Day Bullshit)
--------
Long, long ago somewhere somewhere in Sweden.
--------
Avskum - Punkista LP (2003)
 - Holy shit! I cannot express how much I love this band and this album. A small group of friends found this band, being from nowhere Wisconsin, and have kept them dear to our hearts ever since. This album hits at full throttle and keeps the fuel pumping until the end. I usually listen to this album two or three times in a roll just to let it sink in...with a full night ahead, I only listened to it once this time. "I Hate Your Fucking War!"

Wolfbrigade - Comalive LP (2008)
 - This album is a total rager. There was no need for a come back, Wolfbrigade, never left!

Miasmal - Cursed Redeemer LP (2014)
 - Shit, Sweden always produces awesome metal and punk. Maybe it is the water or the boredom; I can never tell. Why this group decided to sign to Century Media is beyond my mind yet they deliver some of the best best metal I have heard in a while. Their first album was more raw and this is more polished, so what. This album is grade AAA+++ extreme music. This album sounds like Dismembered, Carnage and Exhumed fighting over a half eaten bag of ranch Doritos.

Skitsystem - Enkel Resa Till Rännstenen LP (2001)
 - I remember the whole Midwest freaking out about this band (a big thank you to FELIX HAVOC); everyone was blaring it and had the patches and shirts. This band introduced to me to the wider Swedish punk and metal scene. Before this album, I only really listened to Unleahsed, Nasum and Carnage. Holy shit, this album blew some door wide open and will forever remain serrated in my brain as on of the best.

Nasum - Human 2.0 CD (2000)
 - I am going to end off with this album. To par Skitsystem with another band, it better be Nasum. Everyone has their opinion on Mieszko's recording style yet, fuck it, this band ruled. I found this album at a pawn shop for two dollars and is still one of the best two dollars I have ever spent. This album stepped away from their early raw-grind side and more towards the death metal realm and is still steeped in 'Napalm Worship'. The song 'Resistance' still makes me shake my fist at the world. Hail Mieszko! "Today We Die! Today Testify!"
..................
D.S. 13 - Killed By The Kids LP (2001)
 - Okay, I forget one of my favorite bands EVER. For some reason it never registered to me that they were Swedish (the WI hardcore scene was listening to this...get it?). This album it home a helluva lot more. This album stand true more with the scene that I grew up with. Alright, now sleep. Outta beer, outta luck.

Playlist : 1/29/6 - 2/7/16

1/29/16
--------
Venom - Live : Official Bootleg LP (1986)
 - What I would expect out of a Venom show in the 'early' years

Tangorodrim - Unholy And Unlimited... LP (2003)
 - Meh, good but not horrible Israeli black metal. They have more in common with Hellhammer then anything else.

Twisted Sister - Stay Hungry LP (1984)
 - Just had to. What?

Discharge – Warning: Her Majesty's Government Can Seriously Damage Your Health 12" (1983)
 - It's alright but by this tie they should have became a "motorcrust" band.

Avskum – Crucified By The System 7" (1984)
 - Still on of my favorite bands since yay-tall. I think I like their later material more but this is still a good place to start.

Defacto Oppression - We're Digging Our Own Graves 7" (1999)
 - Fuck, I miss this band. Outside of Asinine Soultion and Legion of Doom, this band was my gateway into punk and hardcore. This 7" is super early in their 'career' and their full length beat it by uncountable miles.

Asinine Soultion - Escape To Wisconsin 7" (1996)
 - Might as well keep drifting down memory lanes.

Hellshock - Only The Dead Know The End Of War LP (2004)
 - Nearly a dozen years later and I still love this album!

Bolt Thrower - In Battle There Is No Law LP (1988)
 - So it begins...(rain starts pouring)

Grave - As Rapture Comes LP (2006)
 - Picked this up in my hometown when they were on tour...still weird to me.

Assbrigade – Demo 2012 Cassette (2012)
 - Shameless self-promotion, got to love it.

 - Straight forward ripping hardcore. I am glad I picked this up; brings me back to the earlier days.

Desastre - Pesadelo Real LP
 - I haven't put this album on in years and FUCK I totally forgot that this Brazilian band totally rules. It's straight up my alley with D-Beat blasts blended with raw wailing crust.

 - These recordings changed it all for me back in 1995.

Late December is usually very busy time.

--------
12/28/15 - no time to listen to music today
--------
False - Self Titled / Untitled 2xLP (Gilead Media, 2015)
- I needed a familiar band to really unwind after work so I an get up and go back to work; gotta love being poor. False has been a band that brings forth style changes and an unrelenting ferocious being. With this album they really have tapped some of the early 'Emperor' sound with the synths in an excellent way. It is not mimicking but creating a different atmosphere, such as their music in general, unique to it self. This album is haunting, bleak and is some of their best material yet. Their lives shows are intense and always a good distraction from the rest of the shitty world around us.

--------
1/6/16
--------
Miasmal - Self Titled LP
Butcher - Holding Back The Night LP

V/a  - Yalta Hi-life LP
- Old chool Finish Punk at it best. I think that the B-side grabbed my attention the most; "Kansanturvamusiikkikomissio" the most with the song 'Albania'.

Dark Throne - A Blaze In The Northern Sky LP
Sonny Osborne - 5 String Hi-Fi LP

--------
1/7/16
--------
Avskum - Punkista LP
 - One of my favorite albums by one of my favorite Swedish bands. Fight back capitalism!

Kuro - Hardcore Damnation 1983/1986 LP
 - I thought it be easier to listen to them but having a compilation of their 7"s and comps they have been on.

V/a  - Yalta Hi-life LP
 - This record will be on heavy rotation.

Playlist 12/27/15

12/27/15
--------
Deviated Instinct - Re-opening Old Wounds LP
-This is some classic shit right here!

Appalachian Terror Unit - We Don't Need Them LP
-I listened to this two times in a row just to get a feel of the album. I am still on the fence but it sounds pretty tight.

Unholy Grave / Butcher ABC - Nuke 'Em All 7"
- At one time, Unholy Grave, was my favorite band; they bring a perfect amount of raw grinding noise to the plate that is addicting. Butcher ABC is one of Japan's best grind bands.

Warcry - Harvest of Death 7"
- I can never get enough Warcry to keep my head banging.

Clusterfux - Abandon Your Gods LP
- Melodic and hard-hitting; pretty decent songs here.

Kromosom - 8 Tracks 12"
- Raw and chaotic. Fuck yeah!

Hellnation - Your Chaos Days Are Numbered LP
- Power-violence is not my favorite genre but this album stands out as one of the best.

Reality Crisis - Discharge Your Frustration LP
- This hardcore band is totally underrated.

------------
Heard at Work: (my coworkers can surprise me from time to time):
X - Los Angeles

Dinosaur Jr.
- Haven't heard many songs outside of 'Without a Sound'. Not the biggest fan but whatever
------------

Celtic Frost - Monotheist LP
- Great album to unwind to.

-------
12/3/15
-------
Warning - Protest And... Still They Die? 7" (1993?)
 - I still think that this EP is a bit of a let down. Their sound is super stripped down to a less raw early eighties Discharge style and lacks the power that it really is striving for. But recording techniques have changed a bit since this recording.

Peroxide - Can You Hear The Sound Of Peace? 7" (2012)
 - The chain saw buzz of the guitar mixed with a precious bass attack, over hard hitting drums with a howling voice are deafening my ears! 'Nuclear Solution' is totally my favorite of this slab of madness.

Genocide / Sorto ?– Final Path To Destruction LP (2005)
 - Genocide's recording from 1993, is fucking tight as hell and full of desperation. Sorto's '83-84' demo side are totally chaotic as hell and distorted as fuck.

Napalm Raid - Mindless Nation LP (2012)
 - Totally, DOOM, crustcore worship done in the best fucking way.

Totalt Jävla Mörker - Helvetespunk 7" (2015)
 - It's been a while since their last release. The metal influence really was knocked up a few notches but in a damn good way.

Asfixia - Self Titled 7" (2006)
 - Really, this group should have been up there with Ekkaia and Cop On Fire. Totally raging melodic hardcore.

Contagium - Self Titled 7" (2009)
 - Sludgy and metallic crust is quite possibly my favorite style of punk. This EP is dead on within that vein of heavy overkill.

Abaddon - Life Out of Balance LP (2009)
 - Some excellent grind/death from Wisconsin.

Zero Hour - Self Titled 7" (1994)
 - That mid ninties crust-punk is at it's best within these four tracks.

Off to work.

Playlist : 11/23/15 - 12/2/15

11/23/15 - 12/2/15
-----------------------------
Warthreat - And The Children 7" (2014)
- These Australians bring forth pretty standard D-Beat but still kick in your door and demand you to house them. The vocals have that somewhat overdone reverb but it fit well with the over all recording. This release was totally worth picking up.

Warcry - Needle Zero Drone II 7" (2014)
- One of the best bands to come out of the U.S. since the late 00's. Sure, they sound similar with each recording but, fuck!, they still drown you in pure awesomeness.

After The Bombs - Terminal Filth Stench Bastard EP 7" (2005)
- For me this was a band that all of a sudden was there, laid waste and then was gone. I think that this EP was their strongest material put forth; heavy and hard hitting as all fuck.

From Ashes Rise - Rejoice The End 7" (2012)
- When these records came out I was overly happy that they were putting out more material. It was mor then a blast from the past and made me feel like I was fucking eighteen again. They pretty much picked up where they left off and made me wonder if these were new songs or rehashes of songs left off 'Nightmares', anyways, Rejoice The End!

Desperat - Demokrati Eller Diktatur? 7" (2012)
- I really need to listen to these guys more to be able to judge this release. So far it is totally solid hardcore that only the Swede's can deliver. Shit, I need a new pair of pants...

Silent Order - Distraction 7" (2015)
- There are hardly any riffs at first listen; just pure noise in the Japanese vein. At first, I decided I did not like this EP at all. Maybe it is the beer but I think that their live shows would be awesome...soooo come down from your Canadian stronghold and lay waste to a basement in these Midwest area...fuckers.

Discider - Drinking To Forget The Future 7"(2001)
- Okay, what happens when you live in the MOST LIBERAL city in the Midwest and dump a deuce and a half of alcohol and anger on top of a bunch of punks in the 'Heart-Land'? I don't know either, I can't remember. This may not be the most mind blowing record of all time but for a small town Wisconsinite lie myself, they were. Fuck you George The Ripper.

V/A - We Come In Peace - More World Less Bank pt. 2 7" (2004)
- Personally, my deep love for compilations runs back before the Internet allowed us to check out bands from wherever, whenever; and not so inconstancy as we can now. The bands that kicked me in the balls on this occasion are Anatomi-71, Ensam and the almighty Diskonto.

Desastre / Lixo ?– Funeral Na Nova Ordem / Lixo 7"
- I threw this on after reading about, Diana Midori of , of Ensam, playing drums in Desastre on this recording. Brazil (Basil), has a reputation of impressive hardcore bands such as Desastre. (I listened to this split three times in a row!)

(See Thanksgiving Playlist)

Amebix - Arise! LP
-Nothing wrong with listening to a classic album once and a while.

Nightfell - Darkness Evermore LP
 - This awesome. Dark riffs, hard hitting drums and bleak melodies.

Born Dead Icons

Born Dead Icons - Work, Dead Alive Records 2000

Sadly, I only got to see Born Dead Icons play once but what a show. I totally got hooked on them after picking up this album after they played. At the time I was use to in your face Hardcore and Grindcore; the only other Crust band that wasn't fast was Amebix. Personally I do not hear what is suppose to be the obvious Amebix/Motorhead sound. After putting this album on the turntable. I think that Born Dead Icons were put on the back burner during the early 2000's. Their sound is right up there with other bands of their time ala From Ashes Rise and Tragedy. Work,is proof that their sound was hell of a lot dark and dirtier then the heavy-weight West Coast bands at the time, it's always up to debate with me.

Sanctum / Stormcrow - Split (No Option Records) 2006

I never really got into Sanctum that much until this split with Stormcrow came out. This is a totally epic split on all proportions altough I tend to listen to the Stormcrow side more often then the other. Sanctum delivers that extremely dark and moody Crust while Stormcrow slowly blackens the landscape with pestilence of disparity. I picked this up when Stormcrow played at Memory Lanes.

This is turning into a listening to blog.

Well, I am not all great at being a web master or lore master of my home state's bands. So instead I write about what I am listening to. No downloads available. I believe in buying hard copy music from the labels or the bands. IF you want to download it from somewhere else go right ahead at least go out and see them if they are still a band and support them or in other ways. I'm not going to get into a long winded debate. So here's what I am listening to.

Acephalix - Interminable Night LP (Agipunk / Southern Lord), 2011.

The already rare demo's on vinyl. Death Metal or Crust, which ever it's a breath of fresh air after then all the Blackened/Epic material that's been floating around. Acephalix's sound is unique touch of darkness that gives a nod to the early Earache sound: Morgoth, Carnage, a light touch of Bolt Thrower with a dash of early Unleashed. Over all shorter solos with down-tuned crisp distortion with pulverizing thunder developing a intoxicating fury.

The first side their newest demo Flesh Torn In Twilight demo while the second side is the 2010 Interminable Night demo. Both were recorded by Jeff Leppard at Lennon Studios in San Fransisco. I can't tell if they were recorded at different sessions with my ears bleeding so damn much.

The collapse of civilization is here and Acephalix is the stinging concussion from the failed scheme.

Remission

-Remission '95

-Remission started out in 1995 in Manitowoc playing thrashy political punk. They recorded plenty of music on labels all of the the world; two of those being on Power Ground (also from WI). As of 2008, Remission has come back from the grave with a new line up that seems like it will be a pretty damn good time.
